Business Development
The Port of Halifax offers distinct advantages to its customers - one of the world's deepest, natural ice-free ports; the first inbound and last outbound port on the North American Continent; a full day closer to Southeast Asia than any other North American east coast port; a stable workforce; and connecting air freight and passenger services to nation and international destinations.
The Port continues to serve more container lines with more direct calls to Europe, the Mediterranean, Middle East, Asia, South America, Central America and the Caribbean than any other Canadian gateway port. Many of the key port container lines have been calling at Halifax since the port began handling containers over 30 years ago. If you would like to learn more about port facilities please visit the facilities section of our website.
Through the Smart Port initiative, the Port of Halifax brings stakeholders together to identify issues and focus on solutions that will increase growth and maintain the Port's competitive position in global markets. The Halifax Port Authority has also enhanced its partnerships with the Greater Halifax Partnership (GHP) and Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) to capitalize on economic development opportunities.
