Halifax Port Authority Board of Directors Elects New Chair

Halifax, NS - The Halifax Port Authority is pleased to announce that Mark MacDonald has been elected Chair of its Board of Directors. Mr. MacDonald has served on the Halifax Port Authority Board of Directors since October 2005 as a Port User appointee.

“The Port of Halifax is a cornerstone of our Regional economy and I am looking forward to working with the Port community to further develop our port’s business,” says Mr. MacDonald. “I am confident in the Port of Halifax’s future and recognize the work ahead to keep our Port’s infrastructure, service and pricing competitive with ports world-wide. I appreciate the collective efforts that have built the Port of Halifax to where it is today.”

The seven member Board of Directors of the Halifax Port Authority elects the Chair position; Ian Oulton officially completed his term as Chair on August 9.

Mr. MacDonald is President & CEO of Bay Ferries Limited, Northumberland Ferries Limited and associated companies.

The Halifax Port Authority is a government business enterprise mandated by the Federal Ministry of Transport. The HPA leads in the development of the Port of Halifax, serving as a catalyst for the local, regional and national economies and has a mandate to be financially viable. The Port of Halifax has a total annual income impact of almost $700 million and an employment impact of over 15,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs.
