Eimskip begins weekly call at the Port of Halifax

April 02, 2007

Halifax, NS - Eimskip, the Icelandic Steamship Company, is now calling the Port of Halifax at the Halterm Container Terminal Limited on a weekly basis. The M/V Brúarfoss made its inaugural call to the port today. This service will connect shippers to Iceland, Newfoundland, and ports in Massachusetts and Virginia.

Eimskip is the longest serving ocean transport company on the North Atlantic with service between Iceland and North America beginning in 1915. The company specializes in the transport of temperature controlled cargo such as refrigerated and frozen fish, meat, fruit and vegetables.

“The Port of Halifax has long been a connecting point between Europe and North America. Eimskip sees Halifax as an important hub in our worldwide network,” said Russell Herder, Managing Director, Eimskip. “This change in our service will give our customers access to global carriers, provides shorter transit times and give them greater access to inland rail transportation.”

Ports of call on this service include: Reykjavik, Argentia, Halifax, Boston/Everett, and Richmond.
