500,000th TEU of the year moved through the Port of Halifax

Halifax, NS December 15, 2006 - The 500,000th TEU of the year moved through the Port of Halifax in early December on Europe West Indies Lines E.W.L vessel the EWL Rotterdam.
"2006 marks the seventh consecutive year that our Port has handled over half a million TEUs. E .W.L . has increased their call frequency, moving to a weekly service, which is another positive sign for the Port of Halifax's growth in 2007" said Michael Cormier, Vice President, Business Development and Customer Relations, Halifax Port Authority.
Europe West Indies Lines began calling the Port of Halifax in October of this year. The Port of Halifax is the only North American port of call for E.W.L's Southbound service.
E.W.L is operating a fleet of five vessels for this service with calls to ports such as Rotterdam, Hamburg, Felixstowe, and Bilbao with connections throughout the West Indies, Central and South America. E.W.L is recognized as the premier service from Europe to and from the Caribbean basin.
