New Container Service between the Port of Halifax, Boston and Portland

Halifax, NS - This week, a new container ship began calling the Port of Halifax and carrying goods to the Boston and Portland area. The MV Ossian is in port today, marking the beginning of a weekly feeder service for the Port of Halifax.

The MV Ossian will transport cargo between Halifax, Nova Scotia; Portland, Maine; and Boston, Massachusetts. The vessel is chartered by Halship Inc., a Halifax-based company, and has the capacity to carry 518 TEUs twenty-foot equivalent container units.

"Halifax is the number one Canadian port in transshipment. This weekly feeder service is an important offering to shipping lines transporting cargo into the Boston and Portland area through Halifax" says Patricia McDermott, Vice President, Marketing, Halifax Port Authority.

The service will be available to shipping lines calling the Port of Halifax. Typical imports into Boston and Portland include soft goods footwear , beverages beer/spirits and international consumer packaged foods.

The vessel's master, Captain Viktor Litvinov, was presented with an inaugural call plaque from the Halifax Port Authority during an on-board ceremony today.
