November 8, 2002
Halifax, NS - Halifax Port Authority announced today that Ceres/NYK will remain as operator at the Fairview Cove Container Terminal under the terms of a new 20 year contract effective January 1, 2003. Cerescorp was the original operator for the Fairview Cove Container Terminal beginning operations with its opening in 1982.
"We have had a strong history of success at Fairview Cove and the interest shown in our Port by so many industry leaders allows us to be optimistic about the next 20 years," said Karen Oldfield, Port Authority President & CEO. "This was an intensely competitive situation and the quality of the proponents and the bids reflected that. Ultimately our decision was based on who we believed would be the best company to help us optimize our revenue potential and growth objectives," said Ms. Oldfield.
"The deal we signed today with Ceres/NYK is a great boost for the Port and the regional economy." said Alan Abraham Jr., Board Chair. "The Board is delighted with the leadership demonstrated by the senior management team through this process." Both Mr. Abraham and Ms. Oldfield were complimentary regarding the relationship between the Port Authority and Ceres, saying that they had been an excellent operator over the past 20 years and are looking forward to the next 20.
"All of the bidders are world class and very professional. By their very participation they expressed confidence in the future success of the Port of Halifax. We are pleased to be continuing our relationship with Ceres/NYK and sharing that future," said Ms. Oldfield.
