Italian Adventurer Begins Latest Expedition In Halifax

Halifax, NS - Italian adventurer Piero Ciacchella will begin his latest expedition tomorrow in Halifax. Ciacchella will spend the next six months driving over 47,000 kilometers through 16 countries while spanning two continents.

Ciacchella's van will arrive in Halifax aboard Costa Container Line's m/v Cala Piedad tomorrow from Italy. He will drive across Canada to Whitehorse and then to Alaska. Ciacchella will then continue his solo journey through the United States and on to Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Tierra del Fuego and will end his trip in Argentina in February 2003.

Ciacchella, an engineer by trade, has spent the last 50 years travelling around the world following his passion for adventure, travelling and archeology. He will be welcomed by an official greeting party at 3 p.m. and presented with a commemorative plaque by the Halifax Port Authority to mark the occasion. The event will take place at the South End Container Terminal.

Costa Container Line is an official sponsor of the expedition. Costa operates direct services between the Port of Halifax, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Seabridge International is the agent for Costa Container Line in Canada.
