Halifax Cruise Welcome Receives Further Accolades
June 11, 2002
Port of Halifax chosen as "Most Receptive Port" in Canada-New England Region
Halifax, NS - Once again, the Port of Halifax has received industry recognition for its award winning Cruise Welcome Program. The Port of Halifax was chosen as "Most Receptive Port" in the large port category at the first annual Canada-New England Marketing Awards handed out in St. John's, Newfoundland during the 4th Annual Canada New-England Cruise Symposium.
"We are deeply appreciative of this award," said Dawn Dalley, Manager, Marketing & Cruise Development at the Halifax Port Authority. "We have long recognized the importance of a warm welcome to the passengers and crew as they arrive in Halifax and we have a tremendous group of local stakeholders who contribute to this award winning program."
The Halifax Cruise Welcome Programme greets passengers and crew as they arrive in Halifax. It is performed by the Halifax Citadel Regimental Association, a non-profit charitable society whose main purpose is to deliver the living history programme at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site of Canada. Upon arrival the ship is greeted with a traditional welcome by uniformed Bagpipers and Drummers from the 78th Highlanders, along with a special greeting from the Town Crier. Upon departure, the passengers and crew receive a farewell sendoff from the Pipers. The Welcome Programme provides a great opportunity to create a positive first impression of Halifax while offering a sense of arrival, warmth and hospitality. The Welcome Programme is administered and funded by the Halifax Cruise Stakeholders Committee.
Nova Scotia was also a winner in one other category as the Port of Digby brought home the Media Award for its web site (www.portofdigby.ca) which is coordinated by the Port of Digby Cruise Ship Association. The Halifax Cruise Stakeholder's Association would like to extend its congratulations to Digby and all other winners throughout the region.
