Celebrity Cruises Calls Halifax
May 29, 2002
Halifax, NS - Celebrity Cruises' 'Galaxy' will make its inaugural visit to the Port of Halifax on Thursday, May 30, 2002. The ship is the first Celebrity Cruises vessel to call Halifax, a line that is consistently recognized as one of the highest-rated premium cruise lines in the world.
"We are very pleased to welcome Celebrity Cruises to the Port of Halifax," says HPA CEO Karen Oldfield. "Each time a new line comes to Halifax, it strengthens our reputation as a flagship port on the East Coast."
The 1,870-guest 'Galaxy' is one of nine premium Celebrity Cruises vessels. Highlights include the custom-designed Aquaspa, an onboard cigar bar and the Orion Restaurant which features cuisine by internationally acclaimed Master Chef Michel Roux.
The 'Galaxy' is visiting Halifax as part of an 11-night Canada/New England sail that includes stops in Baltimore, MD; Bar Harbour, ME; Sydney, NS; Quebec City, QC; and Portland, ME.
Upon arrival, passengers and crew will be greeted by the internationally recognized Halifax Cruise Welcome Programme, a traditional welcome by uniformed Bagpipers and Drummers from the 78th Highlanders as well as a special greeting from the Town Crier. Upon departure, the passengers and crew receive a farewell sendoff from the pipers. The Welcome Programme provides a great opportunity to create a positive first impression of Halifax while offering a sense of arrival, warmth and hospitality. The programme recently won "Best Port Welcome" award during the Miami Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention.
The 2002 cruise season will see 87 calls with over 160,000 passengers visiting the Port of Halifax from 16 cruise lines. The last ship of the season will visit Halifax on October 25.
