The sculptures are completely self-supporting, with no framework or other structural support and are judged by a panel of community leaders and experts. The winning entries go on to an international competition, where they compete, by digital photography, with the best sculptures from across North America.

Neptune Theatre School's Pre-Professional Training Program Performs The Ash Girl

Halifax, May 25, 2009 – Neptune Theatre School’s Pre-Professional Training Program takes the stage of Neptune’s Studio Theatre this week with their production of The Ash Girl.

The Ash Girl is an adult retelling of the classic fairytale Cinderella. The Ash Girl lives deep in a haunted woods with her stepmother and stepsisters, and can hardly believe it when she is invited to Prince Amir’s ball. After finding the strength to go, she finds brief happiness in the prince’s arms, and discovers that in order to keep that happiness she must fight the forest’s demons and believe in herself.

Written by Timberlake Wertenbaker and directed by Charlie Rhindress, the interim Director of the Neptune Theatre School, The Ash Girl features this year’s Pre-Professional Training Program (PPTP). PPTP is an eight-month conservatory training intensive for serious theatre artists intending to enter the acting profession. Students attend classes in acting, voice, movement, text, singing and dancing taught working professionals from the Nova Scotia acting community. Skills learned in the three terms culminate in a Studio Project performed on Neptune Theatre’s Studio Stage. This year’s program is sponsored by ExxonMobil and the performance is sponsored by Port of Halifax.

“It’s been a joy to see the progress of these students over the past eight months,” says Charlie Rhindress, Director of the Neptune Theatre School. “All their training has come together to present this compelling show. The Ash Girl is a simple story told in a thought-provoking manner, and audiences will love it. We are thrilled that ExxonMobil has chosen to support this program by sponsoring them.”

Performances of The Ash Girl start this week and take place in Neptune’s Studio Theatre May 25 to May 28 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $12.
