Halifax Gateway partners with Supply Chain Canada to Build Awareness of East Coast Transportation Opportunities
May 10, 2011 HALIFAX, NS - Halifax Gateway Council (HGC) will host a reception for over 400 business and transportation leaders on May 10th during Supply Chain Canada’s 44th Annual Conference and Trade Show in Toronto. Partners of the reception include the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Halifax Port Authority, Halifax International Airport Authority, Nova Scotia Business Inc., Greater Halifax Partnership, Canadian National Railway and the Nova Scotia Gateway Secretariat.
The reception will provide the opportunity for HGC and partners to network with national clients and business leaders with existing connections to the Gateway, and to introduce the advantages of the Halifax Gateway to those that could benefit from Halifax’s supply chain solutions.
Joyce Carter, Chair of the Halifax Gateway Council, is pleased with the level of collaboration between the partners in showcasing the successful year that the Halifax Gateway has had. “Our transportation channels are an asset we must not overlook. This event gives us the opportunity to provide an overview of some of the great things that happened in the Halifax Gateway in 2010. The Port of Halifax had over a 25% increase in its container business, and the infrastructure upgrades for our airport will increase our capacity to handle larger aircraft, not to mention our activity in the rail and road sectors. We’ve got a lot to showcase.”
Kevin Hamm, President and CEO, Nova Scotia Gateway Secretariat, will be the Master of Ceremonies for the reception. He explains, “Halifax has the means to further Nova Scotia’s position as a major national and international player in the transportation of goods, people and services, now we’ve just got to show the right people the benefits that exist. A fantastic team will be at this event to share what Halifax has to offer with potential partners.”
The Supply Chain Canada event hosts the highest level of professionals from the transportation and logistics sectors during their two day event. This allows organizations to meet and form strategic partnerships. Companies participating in the two day event include: Walmart, Microsoft and Winners.
The Gateway reception will begin at 5 pm on May 10th in the Grand Lobby of the International Centre. More information can be found at www.halifaxgateway.com.
